My daughter got me connected with Kiva a year or two ago. I continue to participate because I think their concept of how charitable donations should work is outstanding. It’s not a handout, it’s a loan; a micro-loan of $1,000 or so backed by individuals like me in $25 chunks. We make the loan expecting to get paid back. The entrepreneurs are from “third-world” sorts of places and expect to pay us back.
I’m also impressed with Kiva’s marketing. They thank me for making the loans – as shown by the image of the e-mail I just got.
Good marketing of a good cause. Check ’em out!
Todd,
I just completed my 31st loan to Kiva, and it is such a good thing – $25 for us is not much, and yet it can help to some people to start their own business. And we get money back to reinvest…
Good stuff!
